What America saw yesterday on the steps of our Capital and in its Sacred Halls was a tragedy that should’ve never happened. When they breached our Capital they were taking Justice in their own hands. I want to caution us, before we accuse others for what happened, let’s take a step back and assume some personal responsibility for our reaction to the action that happened. Our natural inclination is to move into a “death-cycle” and start shaming, blaming, retaliating and then eliminating everyone that doesn’t see what happened exactly like we do. THAT’S VERY DANGEROUS. We need to first talk about how those that breached the Capital took justice in their own hands.
Justice is literally defined as, “a just behavior or treatment.” Did that happen at the Capital. It’s represented by LADY JUSTICE, the blindfolded lady holding two-scales and a sword. We can guess what the scale and the sword signify, but why a blindfold? It represents “impartiality” the idea that justice at all times should be applied without regard to wealth, power, or any other status. Justice shouldn’t see any bias or prejudice and should not be subject to any kind of influence. What happened in our Capital Halls was another kind of blind justice, people without a clear vision for what America is still all about. They seemed to have ripped the blindfold off of our LADY JUSTICE. Yes, presently it would seem we’ve lost a moral compass that has been leading our country from the beginning. But it doesn’t give us the right for self-serving blind justice to occur. We, just like those we watched on TV, are all driven to seek justice, it’s a part of our human nature, but when it’s sought for and demanded in self-strength and personal agenda’s, we move into a death-cycle and cancel culture. When we retaliate and try to eliminate all this country stands for by burning and destroying, we’re on a slippery slope.
Jesus in Matt. 5, gave us HIS “Sermon on the Mount” as an answer to that slippery slope and our cry for JUSTICE. Talking to 1,000’s of people HE started many of the scriptures with “Blessed Are.” America please listen: Blessed are the poor in Spirit, Blessed are those who mourn, Blessed are the meek(humble), Blessed are those that hunger and thirst for righteousness, Blessed are the merciful, Blessed are the pure in heart, Blessed are the peacemakers, Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, Blessed are you when others revile you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Jesus ends up with Rejoice and Be Glad, for your reward is great in heaven. For you are the salt of the earth and the light of the world. But I say to you Love your enemies and pray for those that persecute you, so that you will be son’s of your Father in heaven. For HE makes HIS sun to rise on the evil and good, HE sends rain on the just and unjust. And finally HE ends with, “You therefore must be perfect as your Heavenly Father is perfect.” The secret to the Sermon on the Mount, was not being perfect, because we can never be, but we can be impartial with true justice as we separate ourselves from our own agendas and look to HIS word for answers. Lady Justice has two scales in one hand to help bring clarity to what needs to be balanced in our lives. A sword is in the other representing the authority found in God’s word. I believe Pro. 24:12 states what those scales are all about, “Does not he who weighs the hearts consider it, He who keeps your soul does He not know it? And will He not render to each man according to his deeds?” That is true JUSTICE and God is the only one who can deliver it. What a way to end a sermon:)
If a man could live the way Jesus has told him to live in Matt. 5, he truly would be perfect. But there’s only been one the Lord Jesus Christ. It’s when we surrender to His Lordship instead of all our own agendas that we’ll find what the prophet Isaiah said in Isa. 32:16-18, come true, “Justice will rule in the wilderness and righteousness will abide in the fruitful field. And the effect of righteousness will be peace, and the result of righteousness will be quietness and trust forever. Then My people will abide in a peaceful habitation, in secure dwellings and in quiet resting places.” Folks, that’s the America we all want to live in.
